DOVEBRACE, who has rediscovered his old form, should not be overlooked at Catterick tomorrow.

The Alan Bailey-trained gelding lines up for the Darlington Handicap and is taken to clinch the honours in the hands of John Bramhill.

Dovebrace, in the wilderness in recent years, gained his first success since 1995 when he scored handsomely at Ayr two outings ago, winning by five lengths from Seconds Away, with Shamwari Song back in third.

Shamwari Song got his revenge at Carlisle last week when narrowly beating Dovebrace in an amateur riders' handicap, but there was no disgrace in that defeat, especially as the pair finished seven lengths clear of the remainder of the field.

Dovebrace is now running off a mark 10lb more than at Ayr, but is still rated only 48, which is considerably lower than a season or two back. The seven-year-old is napped to underline his well-being tomorrow.

The Hornby Handicap over five furlongs looks a tricky race to solve, but there is much to like about the claims of Sir Sandrovitch, whose latest unplaced effort should be ignored.

The four-year-old, trained by Richard Fahey, was found to be lame after his most recent run at Musselburgh.

Previously successful at Ayr, Sir Sandrovitch should not be underestimated here.

Rarely a day goes by without Kevin Darley getting his name on the scoresheet, and tomorrow should be no exception.

The Sheriff Hutton jockey, triumphant in last Saturday's Northumberland Plate aboard Bay Of Islands, can clinch the Northallerton Maiden Stakes on Effervescent.

Ian Balding's charge is no star, but she will not need to be to open her winning account in this modest contest.

A 6lb penalty may not anchor Wethaab in the Stockton Handicap. Barry Hills' three-year-old romped home by four lengths at Warwick last week when wearing blinkers for the first time. Hopefully, the headgear will have a similar effect here.

At Brighton, Milady Lillie has solid claims in the Collins Stewart Handicap over seven furlongs.

Ken Ivory's filly ran a sound race at Thirsk on her latest start to finish a close-up fourth to Tornado Prince.

A winner over this course-and-distance, Milady Lillie also represents the same stable which won this corresponding race 12 months ago with Ivory Dawn.

The Ladbrokes Sussex Handicap over an extended five furlongs offers Ivory another winning chance courtesy of Arcadian Chief.

The three-year-old is only lightly-raced, but he has shown consistent signs of ability in slightly better races than this. Likely to go off at value-for-money odds, he deserves more than a passing interest.

Kingsclere will attempt to redeem his reputation in the Charlton Group July Trophy Stakes at Haydock on Saturday after the Ian Balding-trained colt gave Olivier Peslier a difficult ride in the Vodafone Derby.

Kevin Darley has been booked to ride the colt in the Listed contest.
