MOTORISTS have become used to paying more and more for petrol.
They haven't liked the prices they have been forced to pay, but mostly they have grumbled, filled up and driven off. But something is in the air and now drivers are turning against what many see as a blatantly unfair tax.
Petrol prices in Britain have been high for years and now we are heading towards the £1 litre.
Yes, that's right: one pound for one litre. The approach of this unhappy new price record has shocked drivers into action, and has led to the call for drivers to boycott petrol pumps on Dump The Pump day of August 1.
Though we have always paid more for petrol in Britain than most other countries, the continued sharp rises under New Labour have brought home just how much tax is paid by the beleaguered British motorist.
Add to this the appalling state of many roads, which do not appear to be benefiting from the required investment via the astronomical fuel levy, and it is easy to see what has caused this drivers' rebellion.
So we say, join the boycott - and let the Government know that drivers have had enough of handing a fortune to the Treasury.
