DRINKERS are hoping to add a splash of luck to their lives, as their pub urinal doubles as a wishing well.
Spending a penny in the Anchor, at Burn Bridge, near Selby, is also a chance to make a charitable donation and gain some luck.
And despite the occasional theft from the gents, all the money left in the trough is regularly cleaned up and given to the Riding For The Disabled charity.
"We have revived an old pub tradition," said landlord Peter Chilton, whose cheeky poem placed above the lav explains the ritual.
"A coin was once dropped in there and two teams tried to 'push' it to either end, then a few more coins followed and now people keep dropping them in."
When the trough gets full Peter and his wife, Rosie, don rubber gloves to collect the coins.
"They are cleaned in strong disinfectant and then given to charity," 53-year-old Peter added.
Peter explain that the unique urinal has led to many a practical joke being played, one involving washing coins under the tap and putting them in people's hands.
