RESIDENTS of a new housing estate are forming an action group to force a building company to complete what they claim are their "unfinished" houses.
At a meeting held last night by around 18 residents of Gillingwood Road, Clifton Moor, residents talked for four-and-a-half hours about the problems they have with their Bryant Homes properties.
Many claimed their houses were unfinished even after delaying moving in by several days. They meet again tomorrow to discuss approaching Bryant Homes as a group to issue a deadline by which work must be completed. They will also ask for compensation for their inconvenience and, if they are not satisfied with the result, may seek legal advice.
Kwai Mo paid £115,000 for his house and, despite delaying moving in by three days, it was not finished.
He said: "I would expect a few snags, but these were major faults.
"There were gaps between the windows and the walls, tiling not done, holes in the plaster and the wrong colour tiles in other places.
"It was very much a rush job and not a professional finish."
Mr Kwai wrote two letters to the regional director on top of countless verbal complaints at the site office.
Some work has been done but he has given them seven days to complete the rest or he will take legal advice.
Another resident, Steve Ramsden, had a similar experience. He said: "The property never looked like it was going to be ready on time and we had to put the removal men back for three hours.
"We still have a broken drain in the garden, an outside house drain clogged up with solidified mud, two UPVC windows with cracked frames, exposed metal above the windows, tiling which stops four inches short of a hand basin and a garage door which won't shut properly.
"The whole thing looked like a rush job.
"If there's so much wrong on the surface what could be wrong underneath?"
Lorraine Morrissey, marketing director at Bryant Homes, said: "Where items are patently wrong it's our obligation to put them right and put them right quickly and that is exactly what our production manager is doing at the moment."
