A BUMPER crowd will be expected at Common Road on Sunday as Dunnington attempt a second consecutive ECB National Knockout Cup giant-killing act.
The Costcutter York and District Senior League first division side will face Oxbridge Yorkshire County Premier League outfit Sheffield Collegiate in the last 32 of the competition, after seeing off 1998 winners Doncaster by seven wickets in Sunday's fourth round tie.
It is a real change of fortunes for Dunnington in this competition, as they were kicked out of it last year for fielding an ineligible player - former Collegiate star Joe Grant, who was then deemed an overseas player - in their first round victory over Clifton Alliance.
Doncaster, also a Yorkshire County Premier League side, are currently fourth in that table - one place behind Collegiate - but Dunnington showed no signs of being overawed as they steadily took wickets when fielding first at their home ground.
The early stages were of personal satisfaction to Dunnington wicketkeeper Paul Miles, who stumped both openers, Graham Attenbor-ough and Warren Grace, and then caught third man Gareth Dawson for just one run off the bowling of Steve Precious.
However, the telling spell came from skipper Simon Kellett who culled the middle order as he took three for 44 in nine overs. Precious, meanwhile, was the most economical with two for 21 off nine.
The Dunnington reply was confident as Kellett and Grant - no longer classed as a foreigner - put on 35 before Grant fell for 14, and then Mathew Stacey arrived at the crease to aid his skipper.
The pair added 84 runs before Kellett fell for 46 and while Stacey soon followed having made 50, there was little problem for Chris Burgess (32 not out) and Nigel Manners to knock off the runs and secure a comfortable success.
