A MAJOR building programme which could bring nearly 130 new homes to York will be discussed this week.

City of York Council planners will study proposals to build on White Cross Road, off Haxby Road, and Huntington Road.

If accepted, a four-storey block of 32 apartments could be built on the City Hospital site, in White Cross Road.

And nearly 100 homes would be created on the Linfood site, in Huntington Road.

Council officers have recommended that the proposals be given the go-ahead.

The development in White Cross Road would replace an already-approved scheme to build 15 town houses on the site.

It has received objections from three residents living near the proposed development, who claim the building would restrict their view and natural light.

Developer Wainhomes Ltd also wants to build 96 homes off Huntington Road.

The scheme, which includes terraced homes and three-storey blocks of flats, has already been given permission in principle. Members of the council's planning committee will now study more detailed plans.

It has received objections from Huntington Parish Council, which claims it is out of character with the area.

There is also a possibility that the site may be affected by landfill gas and soil contamination - a report on which will be made verbally at the meeting tomorrow.
