IN reply to Dr Robert Breck (June 21), I would like to point out that at this stage traders will not be forced to accept the euro. But because York is such a large tourist attraction for continental visitors, will traders be able to afford not to accept the euro as payment even if they are against the UK signing up to it?
As 20 to 30 per cent of the population want to corroborate and give away the government of our country, won't they encourage the use of the euro as much as possible so that a few years later it will be a fait accomplis? Shouldn't the people of the United Kingdom be given a proper referendum now on whether we want to be part of a Federal Europe or leave the EU and just remain a member of the European Free Trade Area (EFTA), which the vast majority of us thought we had signed up to?
