YORK is rightly famous for its ancient attractions. Now another old-fashioned aspect of life has been drawn to our attention.
This institution might lack the Gothic splendour of York Minster, but it too calls back to an earlier age. Sadly, the age in question is one most of us might rather forget. For this particular ancient tradition is the games room at Huntington Working Men's Club, which bans women for most of the time.
Opinion at the club is divided between those who want to maintain the male preserve and those who acknowledge the times we live in. We feel this is one tradition that should finally be allowed to fade away.
