UNDER-ACHIEVING Swinton Lions will be looking to vent their anger on York Wasps when the sides clash at Gigg Lane tomorrow (kick off 3pm).

Lions chairman Malcolm White has this week taken a swipe at his players for their failure to reach the play-offs.

They are now destined to finish 10th and White said: "I'm very very disappointed because I felt at the start of the season we were top three material. But they have never performed."

White claims they have relied on too many former Super League players who have not been prepared to battle in the Northern Ford Premiership.

They now plan to look towards the local amateur game next season, but one man who will definitely remain is highly-rated coach Mike Gregory.

He will have his players fired up to restore some pride tomorrow, something the Wasps successfully managed in their brave defeat by Dewsbury last week.

York coach Garry Atkins will make only a couple of enforced changes from the team beaten 56-17 by the Rams.

Forward Andy Precious is unavailable due to work commitments while winger Gareth Lloyd misses the game with a thigh strain which forced him off against Dewsbury.

In their places come Mick Hagan and Kevin Gray, although Gray will not go straight back in at full-back.

The number one shirt will be retained by Simon Irving who did a good job last week so Gray will either be on the wing or the bench.

Swinton have scrum-half Ian Watson back after suspension, while there are doubts over second rower Craig Randall, stand-off Sean Casey and back Matt Bateman.

Former Great Britain back Paul Loughlin is fit again after missing last week's 34-22 defeat at Barrow with an ankle injury.

It is York's penultimate match of the season so time is running out for the players to prove their worth for the next campaign.

That could prove a factor in their performances, according to Atkins. "Some of them will be getting offered contracts and some of them won't. It's up to them to put themselves in the shop window.

"It will be a real uphill battle. We've got to be switched on and I'm sure if they start getting switched on they will start performing."

Atkins confirmed that some players had been approached by other clubs, but he would not reveal their identities.

His own future with the club is equally uncertain.

Next season's coach is expected to be confirmed within the next month but Atkins said he had not yet spoken to the board."

BACK IN ACTION: Mick Hagan, seen here cashing through the Batley defence earlier this season, is in York's line-up tomorrow.
