TOILET stops have taken on a whole new meaning for some trains which pass through York.
For some confused passengers have been bringing trains to a halt by pushing emergency buttons that are just a touch too near the place where the flush can normally be found.
The problem is in the process of being remedied by Midland Mainline, whose new Turbostar Express trains are a little too high-tech for some travellers.
Midland Mainline runs weekend services from London, via Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, to York and Scarborough.
A spokesman for the operator said: "We've been running the new Turbostar Expresses since last year passengers were making the mistake of pressing the emergency switch rather than flushing the toilet."The emergency button and the flush are on the same panel and now we've got someone looking at re-doing all the signage involved, so people don't get confused.
"The emergency button system can't stop the train itself, but the driver may decide to stop the train when he gets the alert.
"Problems have occurred because these trains are a bit more high-tech than usual."
