MFI says it will create a new experience in furniture shopping when its new Homeworks furniture store opens in York next month.
The 23,000 ft showroom will feature a state-of-the-art computer-aided design system, allowing customers to see their own kitchen or bedroom plan in 3-D colour "photorealism."
The company is moving on to a site in Foss Islands Road vacated earlier this year by DIY giant B & Q who have opened a new warehouse next to MFI's old store off Hull Road.
MFI says it has invested £500,000 in the new store, which is more than twice as big as the old and will create seven new jobs.
It will sell office furniture and electrical appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers, as well as kitchens and bedrooms.
"The introduction of MFI Homeworks to York represents a significant investment by the company, reflecting our confidence in the local economy,"
said general manager Tim Hagues.
The new store opens on Thursday, July 20, with the old store closing down the day before.
