Frankie Dettori has revealed that his return to racing action could be at York's Ebor meeting in August.

Dettori has stated that his love of race-riding is helping him get over the plane crash that almost cost him and fellow jockey Ray Cochrane their lives, and he intimated that he is hoping his return to the saddle will be in the York three-day meeting which starts on August 22.

The popular Italian jockey, who was at Royal Ascot, said: "One thing I do miss is the riding. Racing has been keeping me very entertained at home.

"I've been the worst critic in the world. If I concentrate on my riding I'm sure that I will pull through it as quick as I think."

Dettori was making his first public appearance since the light aircraft crash at Newmarket three weeks ago in which pilot Patrick Mackey was killed andDettori and Cochrane were injured.

His injuries included a broken right ankle and a head wound that needed stitches.

"I'm lucky to be alive and very excited to be here. It was yesterday I was on crutches and they gave me this special thing so I am able to walk without them.

"I told my wife Catherine this morning that I was going to Ascot. I could not miss Dubai Millennium running and the Royal Ascot atmosphere."
