LUKE Hethlop plunges in to escape the heat at Newton Feast as Yorkshire becomes one of the hottest places in the country.
Temperatures soared to 90F in the region, the highest recorded in June by the Leeds Weather Centre since it opened in 1985 and the second highest in the country.
Although sea breezes kept the coast more comfortable, inland areas baked in 12 to 13 hours of unbroken sunshine.
But forecasters are warning it will not last.
A spokesman for the PA Weathercentre said: "Today will be more of the same with temperatures getting up to 90F again, but tonight will see thundery showers and tomorrow will be much fresher.
"The rest of the week will be increasingly cool and quite windy with some rain. By Friday, we are expecting maximum temperatures to be around 64F."He said next weekend looks reasonably sunny, but temperatures will be nowhere close to those enjoyed in the past few days.
