THE York Millennium Mystery Plays are sold out before they even start.
The production, to be staged in the nave of York Minster on a massive purpose-built stage, will have a full house every night after it opens this Thursday.
"The interest and response has been tremendous," said Delma Tomlin, chief executive of the York Millennium Mystery Plays Board.
"We have received bookings from all over the world. We are absolutely delighted that we are able so positively to contribute to the city's economy."
More than 28,000 tickets have been sold for the Plays, which will be directed by the Royal Shakespeare Company's associate director, Gregory Doran, and will star Ray Stevenson as Jesus Christ.
"For the first time in the history of the city, York has brought together its greatest asset within its greatest architectural monument in a unique event for the Millennium," said Mr Doran. The production team and the entire company of 200 are hoping that the size and epic scale of the production will match the magnificence of the building."
