Tadcaster Swim Squad's Peter Webster took the top boy award at Scarborough Swimming Club's Graded Meet.

He took four gold medals and produced a national qualifying time in the 100 metres backstroke of 1.05.74.

He also won the breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley races.

Emily Broadbent, 11, of New Earswick Swimming Club took the top girl trophy with 24 points from three wins (50m backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle), one second place (50m butterfly) and one sixth place (100m individual medley) - five trophies from five entries in the 'B' Grade events.

Tadcaster's 25-strong squad won 50 medals, 12 speeding tickets and achieved 78 personal best short course times.

In the 10 year age group 'B' grade, there were two gold medals for Chloe Carter and one for James Webster, while Ben Walker and Matthew Fiddler both had top six finishes.

All of them, plus Clare Pugh, had improved time swims.

In the 'B' grade gala there was gold for Andrew Cowan in the boys 100m freestyle, Felicity Prior in the girls freestyle and Andrew Withers in the breaststroke, while silver went to Stuart Prior, Tom Davies and Amy Costello, who also picked up a bronze in the 100m butterfly.

In the open gala, Amy Clayden produced superb form to claim gold in the butterfly, backstroke and freestyle and a silver in the individual medley.

Tom Davies shattered his best butterfly time to take silver. In the 12-year breaststroke event, Charlotte Black was third with Anna Horwell fifth to go with her individual medley sixth.

There were fourth place medals for Claire Passmore and Natalie Saunders and a sixth place finish for Amy Costello in the breaststroke.

Other personal best short course times were recorded by Naiomi Boynton, Amy Davies, Emma South, Polly Gardonyi, Mary Clerehugh, Suzanne Collyer, Luisa Horwell and Stef Poynter. Every swimmer collected at least one personal best time.

New Earswick's 14 swimmers collected 38 trophies, two speeding tickets and set 39 personal best times at the meeting.

Alice Lawrence won the A-grade 11-years 50m breaststroke and was second in the 100m individual medley.

Tony Shaw (16 yrs) was second in the 100m backstroke to go with two fourth places trophies in the 100m backstroke and breaststroke and fifth place in the 100m individual medley.
