A PAINTING valued at more than £300 has been stolen from a York art gallery.
The gallery's owner today appealed for help in tracing the work by train artist Michael Smart.
The wood-framed 17in by 17in oil painting of a train leaving King's Cross station was taken from the window display of the Alan Stuttle Gallery, in Micklegate, last Friday while staff were distracted by other customers.
Owner Marjorie Stuttle said that at £325 it was the most expensive painting in the window and it may have been stolen to order.
If you have any information about the theft you are asked to telephone York police on 01904 631321.
