RESIDENTS awaiting wheelie bins in an outlying area of York may have to wait a little longer after an administrative blunder led to them being given the wrong information about when their bins would arrive.
Residents of Hopgrove were sent letters informing them their wheelie bins would arrive at the beginning of April but, when none turned up, they began to smell a rat. Now, Stewart Grieve, client services manager, for City of York Council, has revealed the information was mistakenly been sent to the wrong houses.
He said: "We have been working hard to provide 20,000 new bins to Rufforth, Haxby, Wigginton and Clifton Moor.
"There was a certain section of the Hopgrove area which got some information it shouldn't have received."It was sent out by mistake.
"We didn't realise at the time but although they have been promised wheelie bins they were given information too far in advance.
"They will shortly be getting a letter telling them they will receive their bins in the next month or so."
He said members of the public who were ringing up to inquire about the situation were also being given the correct information over the phone.
Mr Grieve said there are 600 houses left to be provided with wheelie bins in the Stockton-on-the-Forest, Murton and Holtby areas.
They should get their bins in a month's time.
