YORK Wasps Rugby League Club's future today looked to have been secured after coming up with the money to pay off the Inland Revenue.
The club have drawn on cash due to them from the Rugby Football League to make up the bulk of the £77,000 which they owe the taxman. Other businesses in York have helped them make up the shortfall.
One of the men behind the rescue package, Russell Greenfield, was contacting the Inland Revenue today with the hope of getting the winding-up petition against the club dismissed.
The Wasps were also due to announce a new three-man board of directors today who will have money available for team strengthening next season.
Greenfield said: "I think this is the dawn of a new era."
