TADCASTER School long jumper Helena Carter has soared into national contention.
She jumped 5.32 metres when representing York and District in the North Yorkshire County Championships at Huntington Stadium.
That easily beat the 5.05m national standard for Junior Girls and gave her the county title.
Manor School's Tom Durham was also fractionally outside a national qualifying mark when winning the Junior Boys triple jump with 11.50m.
David Makin (Sherburn) stormed to the 100m Inter Boys hurdles title in a new county record time of 14.4 seconds.
York and District athletes won a total of 22 titles with a string of second and third places.
