JOHN Stabler and Russell Greenfield will not be leaving Hull FC to take over at York Wasps, writes Dianne Hillaby.

The pair, who are currently directors at Super League club Hull, will continue in their quest to save the Huntington Stadium club from the threat of a winding-up order.

They will also oversee a complete restructuring of the Wasps during the close season.

But Stabler today insisted they would not be coming back on board as directors.

"We are here in an advisory position and will keep a watching brief on it. But we don't run the club and we have no intention of doing so," Stabler told the Evening Press.

"We were approached to save the club and we hope to be able to do that. We need to get it into dry dock, have a complete refit and have a new captain and crew on board to send it off next year.

"We will also be involved in trying to get some major sponsorship up and running. Then as soon as we are confident that everything's in place and we can safely move on then we will do that."

Chief executive Ann Garvey will continue the day-to-day running of the club and Stabler insisted that other staff members, including the players, could still be retained.

He said: "The club will be restructured from top to bottom, and the common denominator will be Ann (Garvey).

"Everybody has got a future at York if they can prove themselves. The loyalty and effort they put in will be considered. Things are going to change and hopefully be a lot better.

"Those players that are worthy of it will be in with a chance for next season so the last three games are vitally important."

However, he restated that the rebuilding of the team is not the main priority. Although they have people in mind they will not be making any definite plans until the future of the club is secured.

Stabler and Greenfield have been talking to the Rugby League over the last week as they try to come up with a payment structure to satisfy the Inland Revenue.

They have been discussing the possibility of drawing from the News Corporation money that is due to the club over the next two years but an agreement has not yet been reached.
