BACCHUS, who suffered a near-miss on his seasonal reappearance at Redcar two weeks ago, can gain compensation at Beverley tomorrow.

The Julie Camacho trained gelding goes for the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside Handicap and will have the services of Kevin Darley, the season's leading jockey.

Bacchus, a winner on this course last season, failed by only a neck to concede 15lb to Were Not Stoppin at Redcar and lost no mark in defeat against a race-fit and in-form rival. Normal improvement from that first run of the campaign should make Bacchus hard to beat tomorrow.

Darley, one of many jockeys doing a double-shift tomorrow, will be flying to Hamilton's evening meeting after riding at Beverley. The Sheriff Hutton rider could well have a couple of winners by the time he steps on his plane.

He can also win the Etherington Handicap on Kass Alhawa, trained by David Chapman at Stillington.

A course-and-distance winner, Kass Alhawa could finish only fifth here last week, but that was a messy race run at a muddling gallop and he should be forgiven that below-par effort. He has good prospects tomorrow of a much more prominent showing.

Dazzling Quintet has solid claims in the ULH (Holdings) Ltd Fillies' Handicap over five furlongs. Gradually finding her form, Dazzling Quintet ran a splendid race at Carlisle last week when failing by just a short head to hold off the late charge of Bowlers Boy in the dying strides. A course and distance winner here, Dazzling Quintet can go one better here.

Middlethorpe gets my vote in the Ernest Norris Memorial Handicap. Mick Easterby's gelding bounced back to top form on this course last week when gaining a determined success in the hands of Pat Eddery. Gyles Parkin takes over tomorrow and Middlethorpe is fancied to defy a 5lb penalty.

John Dunlop can make his presence felt at Lingfield with Penshiel in the Come To Australia Night on 1st July Handicap division one.

A narrow winner at Beverley on his reappearance, Penshiel, who has run only four times, looks the sort to improve considerably as he gains experience. With Pat Eddery on board tomorrow he is napped for a double-strike.

Champion jockey Kieren Fallon, who was seen at his brilliant best at Epsom last Saturday when he rode a treble, has several fancied mounts at Lingfield, including New Assembly in the Sponsor A Race Maiden Stakes.

Sir Michael Stoute's promising filly was second to Pleasure Center at Nottingham recently. Tomorrow's slightly longer distance should suit her better.
