Several excellent individual performances were overshadowed by York's 79 run defeat in the NCA National Club Knockout at Harrogate yesterday.
Harrogate batted first for 215 all out in 43 overs, York replying with 136 in 35 overs after a boisterous innings of 61 from their left handed opening bat, Marcus Wood, who had included five massive sixes in his innings of 61 out of York's total of 80-4 at the time.
Catching and bowling one-ime Leicestershire all-rounder Peter Hepworth for a duck, made James Pringle's day while another of York's teenagers, Stephen Piercy took 3-34 including Simon Kippax for none, Jeremy Henderson (11) and Cousen (31) caught by Wood.
David Bates turned the course of the game in Harrogate's favour, bludgeoning the York bowlers for 73 runs which almost accounted for York's ultimate deficit of 79 runs.
John Proud (32) and Darren Wyrill (22) enjoyed a half century stand before Harrogate wickets fell at regular intervals before Bates stabilised their innings.
