Christian Fox added more awards to his increasingly crowded mantelpiece this week.

The teenage midfielder was crowned player of the year by readers of There's Only One Arthur Bottom, the daily electronic newsletter for City supporters around the globe, and also by York City Supporters' Club London and The South Branch.

Fox's latest accolades come after he was named the York City Supporters' Club player of the year last Saturday.

In the Arthur poll, Fox pipped Barry Jones - winner of the Billy Fenton Memorial Trophy for a second year - and Chris Fairclough - winner of the Evening Press/Unique Pub Co player of the year - in the closest vote since the electronic news-letter started its annual poll.

Fox gained 28 per cent of votes, Jones 26, Fairclough 15, Peter Swan eight and Steve Agnew four.

Previous winners of the Arthur poll were Richard Cresswell and Paul Stephenson.

Fox will have to wait a while longer to pick up his award from the YCSC London and the South Branch which was due to be presented prior to this afternoon's game at Orient.

However, injury prevented Fox from making the trip to so it is hoped the trophy will now be presented prior to the pre-season friendly with Manchester United on July 29.

Past winners of the James Walker Memorial Trophy have been Andy McMillan, Mark Samways, and Richard Cresswell.

Needless to say after a largely disappointing season, no York City players were voted by their fellow professionals into the PFA division three select team.

The team selected was: Mike Pollitt (Rotherham), Ian Hendon (Northampton), Matthew Bound (Swansea), Craig Liddle (Darlington), Matthew Lockwood (Leyton Orient) Darren Currie (Barnet), Tommy Miller (Hartlepool), Neil Heaney (Darlington), Nick Cusack (Swansea), Marco Gabbiadini (Darlington), Richard Barker (Macclesfield).

Former City shot stopper Bobby Mimms did earn selection for the Nationwide division three team of the week for his heroics in the goal for his shot-shy new club Mansfield.

Indeed, his performance in the Stags' recent 1-0 defeat at the hands of Hartlepool earned him the accolade of Opta's Division Three player of the week.

Mimms' replacement at City, Alan Fettis, was the only Minsterman featuring in the Opta Division Three players of the month tables. Fettis was ranked fifth in the goalkeeping charts behind top dog Lee Harrison, of Barnet.

Most of the hacks gathered in the City press box for last week's red-tainted encounter with Halifax Town were struggling to recollect a match where a team finished with eight men following a hat-trick of sendings-off.

However, City Supporters' Club official Robert Havercroft can not only match it but go one better.

Havercroft, while conceding it was the first time he had witnessed three players from the same team being sent off in a match involving York, recalled a Scottish sojourn where red cards were brandished with even more gusto.

Back in December 1994, he took in Airdrie's 8-1 Scottish First Division tonking of Stranraer in which the luckless visitors were forced to play a third of the game with only SEVEN men.

The last of the four red cards was issued in the 61st minute.

York City Supporters' Club celebrated success by winning the David Longhurst Supporters' Challenge for the third time in the quiz's ten-year history.

Three York teams occupied the top three places in the third and final leg of the competition, staged at the York City Social Club, with Ian's White Knuckle Ride finishing in first place.

It is the second successive year City supporters have risen to the challenge ahead of their counterparts from Scarborough and Hull City.
