YORK boxer Graham Fearn will set out this week on the road to transatlantic glory.
Fearn, from Rowntree Avenue, Clifton, has been selected to represent the Police Boxing Association of England on their tour of Houston, Texas.
They fly to America tomorrow ahead of the boxing tournament against the American Police which takes place next Tuesday.
The party will also attend a function at the British Embassy as guests of the British Consulate General.
Light welterweight Fearn, 24, who boxes out of the Hunslet Boys Club, was notified of his selection after his Amateur Boxing Association second round bout against highly-rated Nigel Wright from County Durham.
The experienced Wright, ABA light welterweight champion in 1998, has represented Great Britain in the Commonwealth Games and world amateur championships and has qualified for this year's Sydney Olympics.
He proved too strong for Fearn and the referee stopped the fight at the end of the first round.
But Fearn, with 19 wins from 24 senior contests, had impressed enough in his previous fights to be invited on the trip to Houston.
He is trained by policeman Dennis Robins and is eligible to represent the Police Boxing Association as the Hunslet club now come under the wing of the Metropolitan Police.
Fearn travels to Hunslet three or four times a week which he must combine with shift work which has not aided his fight preparations.
He would welcome sponsorship in any form and anyone who can help should contact Colin on 01904 603448.
