York City boss Terry Dolan received a perfectly-timed holiday fillip by revealing player of the year Barry Jones has committed himself to Bootham Crescent.

The City chief also insists he still maintains a strong interest in Bradford City's Mark Bower despite the Bantam's offering last season's loan star, now out of contract at Valley Parade, a fresh two year deal.

However, Dolan has conceded defeat in trying to lure fellow loan ranger Peter Hawkins in a permanent move from relegated Wimbledon to Bootham Crescent

Jones, whose current contract is due to expire this summer, has finally agreed to put pen to paper on a new deal to cap a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the sometime City skipper.

At the start of last season, then manager Neil Thompson said he was unable to guarantee Jones a first-team role and was willing to let-him go.

However, Jones continued to be an almost ever present, was appointed captain in the absence of Chris Fairclough and since the turn of the year was City's player of the year.

His form and commitment was recognised by the fans, who crowned him clubman of the year for a second successive season - only the third player to win the prestigious Billy Fenton Memorial Trophy twice in a row.

Dolan, while reluctant to reveal the length of Jones' new contract, admitted he was delighted the 29-year-old had finally pledged himself to City as he prepares himself for a break from his Bootham Crescent desk.

Despite Jones' agreeing to City's new offer, Dolan said he did not expect to hear from either defender Darren Edmondson or goalkeeper Alan Fettis as to whether they will also agree to new terms until he returns on June 5.

Maidstone-born Hawkins, 21, still has two years to run on his current Wimbledon contract and has decided to stay in the capital despite the Dons being relegated from the Premiership

The eagerly awaited launch of the new York City change kit has been put back until June 8 by manufacturers Admiral.

The away strip - it's colour a closely guarded secret - was due to be unveiled at Bootham Crescent on Thursday, June 1.
