FORMER Newcastle United prospect Paul Talbot has been shown the Bootham Crescent door by York City chief Terry Dolan.
But the City boss has handed young teenage striker James Turley, whose contract also runs out in the summer, another year while offering new deals to Darren Edmondson and Barry Jones.
Dolan is now awaiting replies from both Edmondson and Jones and revealed he has also begun talks with 'keeper Alan Fettis with a view to keeping the highly-rated Northern Ireland international at Bootham Crescent.
"I had a chat with James about six weeks ago and I told him I was about 75 per cent positive of extending his contract but I wanted him to show me that I should be 100 per cent," said the City boss of his decision to retain Turley.
"To be fair, he hasn't had that many opportunities but he scored a goal last week against Halifax and despite having three chances before he eventually hit the target he stuck at it. Now we are hoping he will improve over the next 12 months."
Dolan also explained the reasons on bringing down the curtain on Talbot's brief Minstermen stint.
The Gateshead-born youngster was snapped up by Dolan on a short-term contract after being released by Newcastle but struggled to get to grips with the pace of Division Three football.
"He has had six years at Newcastle so has had a good grounding and technically he has got everything there," said Dolan.
"But he needs to come out of himself and show more urgency and fight.
"I haven't got time to wait. Had he been 18 it might have been a different story but he is 21 later this year and it is only the lad himself who can bring it out."
Dolan said the futures of Bradford's Mark Bower and Wimbledon's Peter Hawkins, both on loan at Bootham Crescent, could not be decided until their clubs' seasons had finished.
