Ground: Field Mill
Capacity: 6,905
Last season: 8th
Manager: Billy Dearden
Ins: Neil Richardson defender from Rotherham on a free.
Outs: Striker Iyseden Christie to Leyton Orient on tribunal fee; Steve Harper midfielder to Hull City on a free; midfielder Jason Sedlan to Notts County on a free; Mark Peters defender to Rushden and Diamonds on a free; Jon Schofield defender to Hull City on a free.
Chances: Cash-strapped, the Stags are still reeling from the consequences of a transfer embargo that blighted last season. They have launched a new supporter-based company, Team Mansfield, which aims to allow fans to buy blocks of shares, eventually leading to the financing of a takeover. New manager Billy Dearden, who in the summer moved up from number two at Port Vale, faces a major recruitment headache. One of his first tasks in succession to Steve Parkin is replace the firepower lost via Iyseden Christie's switch to Leyton Orient. So far only able to draft in veteran defender Neil Richardson and there does not appear to be much likelihood of the Stags lording it at the top of the table as they did briefly last term.
One to watch: Darrell Clarke. Skilful young midfielder who has attracted several scouts to the Field Mill ground.
Title odds: 16-1.
