Ground: Millmoor
Capacity: 11,500
Last season: 5th
Manager: Ronnie Moore
Ins: Will Varty midfielder from Carlisle, free; Brian Wilsterman defender from Oxford United; Andy Turner winger from Crystal Palace, free; Kevin Watson midfielder from Swindon, free.
Outs: Neil Richardson defender to Mansfield, free; Andy Roscoe defender freed; Martin Clark defender freed; Gary Scott defender freed.
Chances: After their play-off push last May Rotherham would appear best equipped for another assault on the top seven. But those close to Millmoor believe Rotherham rode their luck on more than one occasion. As the new campaign unfolds that good fortune may well not hold. There's no denying the Merry Millers are potent in attack. Their haul of 79 goals was only bested by Division Three champions Brentford and new signing Andy Turner is expected to create even more openings. But their rearguard is not particularly strong and that could seriously undermine a second consecutive play-off bid.
One to watch: Leo Fortune-West. Striker, who cost £35,000 from Brentford. Accustomed to the demands of the basement and likely to figure among the division's top marksmen.
Title odds: 12-1.
