THE futures of York City striker James Turley and midfielder Paul Talbot will be decided by the end of this week.

Both players' contracts run out in the summer, and City boss Terry Dolan said today that he will decide before the week is out whether to offer them new deals.

Manchester-born Turley, 18, who is coming to the end of his first season in the professional ranks, did his hopes of securing a deal no harm with the first goal in City's 2-0 victory over Halifax Town on Saturday.

It was his second goal in his eighth start for the Minstermen.

Talbot also began the game but was substituted after 37 minutes by young winger Kieran Darlow.

The Gateshead-born 20-year-old Talbot, who trained yesterday while recovering from a head cold, was signed by Dolan on a free transfer from Newcastle United at the beginning of March.

The clash with the Shaymen was his fifth start of the season, but Dolan has already said he will not figure in City's last game of the season, at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Dolan said: "I will have to make a decision on both players and I will probably announce that later in the week."

City defender Chris Fairclough will have to wait until at least next week before learning his fate after being charged with misconduct by the Football Association.

Fairclough was charged by the FA following an alleged incident in the players' tunnel after the Minstermen's fiery draw with Darlington last month.

The defender had until the end of April to respond and, as reported in the Evening Press, sent a letter to Lancaster Gate setting out his version of events on April 8.

A spokesman for the FA confirmed a letter had been received from Fairclough answering the charge, but said a final outcome could be up to two weeks away.

"Further correspondence is now required to clarify points in his response and we are working on that as we speak," explained the spokesman.

Fairclough should soon know if he needs tidying up work on his damaged knee ligament.

He was rested for the victory over Halifax, and has been to see a specialist for a check-up. Results of a scan on his troublesome knee are expected tomorrow.
