MEET York City's latest wannabe stars of the future.

Five young players, Daniel Barry, Stuart Wise, Luke Ibbetson, Mark Hampshire and Marvin Boyce, are the latest recruits to Bootham Crescent's highly envied youth programme.

The quintet will take their first tentative steps in the professional game when they start their three year trainee scholarships at the start of next season.

All five have featured for the club's under-16s this season coached by Garry Naylor and John Stockton.

Ibbotson, who turns 16 next month, is a striker from York; fellow striker Barry, 16, hails from Middlesbrough as does centre-half Wise, also 16.

Hampshire, a 16-year-old goalkeeper, comes from Thorpe Willoughby, near Selby, while Boyce, 16, is a versatile left sided player who also comes from the North East.

Boyce joined City Under-16s midway through the season having been released by his home-town club, Premiership outfit Middlesbrough.

City's current crop of youngsters yesterday lost their final game of the season in the Football League Youth Alliance Merit Premier Division North.

The youth team were beaten 1-0 by their counterparts from Bury at the club's Wigginton Road training ground.
