COXWOLD have become the first winners of the Marisa Sports Trophy played for by teams who finish outside the top four in the Camerons Brewery sponsored Beckett Football League.
They beat Rosedale 2-1 in the final at Kirkbymoorside last night.
Coxwold took the lead after eight minutes when Russell Burn scored with a fine header.
Paul Doy increased his side's lead with an unstoppable 20-yard shot which flew into the top corner of the goal.
Coxwold were awarded a penalty kick after 38 minutes. It was taken by Chris Beaumont but Rosedale goalkeeper David Seller made a brilliant save diving to his right and tipping the ball round for a corner.
The turning point of the game was after 65 minutes when John Tindall, Rosedale's top scorer, sent in a superb 25-yard free kick which the Coxwold goalkeeper, 15-year-old Daniel Jaques, saved superbly by tipping the ball over the crossbar.
Jaques, who is fast becoming the top young goalkeeper in the league, saved well again ten minutes later to prevent Ben Adamson scoring.
Rosedale scored after 77 minutes when Les Bargh, their skipper, hit a great 25-yard free kick which curled round the Coxwold defensive wall into the top corner.
The cup and trophies were presented to Coxwold skipper Jason Sargent by Walter Marshall, the secretary of the Slingsby club and a member of Beckett Football League management committee.
Man of the match award winners were Daniel Jaques (Coxwold), David Underwood (Rosedale).
Rosedale beat Duncombe Park 2-1 to reach the final in last Saturday's semi-final.
Kenny Weatherill scored for Rosedale in the first half. Paul Brown increased their lead after 50 minutes. Steve Garbutt scored for Duncombe Park after 55 minutes.
The last half hour was all Duncombe Park, but they couldn't get the ball in the goal.
Man of the match winners were David Underwood (Rosedale), Steve Garbutt (Duncombe Park).
