A POLICE investigation is under way following a complaint about financial irregularities in a York school's parent-teachers association.
Ruth Lyons, head teacher at Poppleton Road Primary School, confirmed today that the treasurer of the PTA, Tracy McIntyre, had been suspended from the post and from its committee.
Mrs Lyons said: "Mrs McIntyre has been suspended from the committee until further notice and pending a police investigation following a complaint which the committee decided to make after realising that funds were missing from its accounts."
Mrs McIntyre has spent nine years on the school's PTA - six as treasurer.
Judi Husband, chair of the school PTA, said: "We have made a complaint to the police and the matter is now in their hands."
Mrs Lyons said all parents would receive letters today outlining the situation.
Nigel Atkinson, the school's chair of governors, said: "We want to make parents fully aware that we have this situation within the PTA and to reassure them that we are doing all we can to resolve the matter."
Mrs McIntyre was not available for comment.
York police confirmed today that a woman had been arrested and released on bail earlier this week pending further inquiries.
