YORK made up for the bitter disappointment suffered on Saturday against the reigning Yorkshire ECB County Premier League champions, Doncaster, hitting back to beat Yorkshire Academy at Clifton Park yesterday by 28 runs.
For York's former skipper, Ian Dews, it was a double disaster.
On his Yorkshire League debut as Academy skipper, Dews was run out moments after taking his guard.
York batted first and scored 178-8 in their 60 overs, the Academy being bowled out for 150 in 58 overs, York taking eight points for the victory.
Marcus Wood (66) and Steve Piercy (16) enjoyed their second successive half century stand before Piercy was caught behind by Mark Beckett off left arm medium pace bowler Gareth Davies who finished with figures of 2-29. Academy wicketkeeper Beckett held four catches.
Wood and Simon Mason (39) went on to lay on another half century stand for the second wicket when they took the score to 122-1 in the 45th over with York firmly in he driving seat.
But, as against Doncaster, York's middle order went into their shells and failed to keep up the momentum finding too many fielders with their shots and Australian all-rounder Nash Stone needlessly throwing his wicket away, run out as his dive for the crease ended up six feet away from his ground.
The Academy batsmen only needed a scoring rate of three an over to win but all the York bowlers took up the challenge.
Stone took his Bank Holiday weekend haul of wickets to ten with a right arm medium pace return of 4-54 with fellow Australian Greg How taking 2-54 in 21 overs.
Rob Lancaster chipped in with 1-21 in eight overs and 16-year-old James Pringle, again opening the bowling, taking 1-9 in six tidy overs.
Scarborough's skipper, Nick Tubbs, was delighted with his side's two wicket victory over North Marine Road visitors Rotherham who were bowledout for 111 in 58 overs.
Veteran off-spinner Chris Clifford, 57, continued to defy his advancing years to take 4-28 in 22 overs.
Scarborough's batsmen were made to fight hard every inch of the way to reach their target in 52 overs as Rotherham fell for 111 all out.
Yorkshire's newest contracted players, John Inglis, from Ripon, was stumped two runs short of his half century and Pete Hepworth made 39 as Harrogate were held to 182-9 in 60 overs by Appleby-Frodingham.
Spinner Simon Kippax took 4-46 in 15 overs but the Scunthorpe based club held on to deprive Harrogate of maximum points, scoring 155-7.
Appleby-Frodingham's father and son combination blossomed as Ashley White top scored for his side with a half century while White junior - Nick - took 5-58 in 14 overs of slow left arm spin.
