YORK City mascot Yorkie has escaped a rap on the paws after a stormy end to Saturday's Third Division match at Bootham Crescent.
Police are not to take any action against the City cheerleader after he allegedly squirted water at Halifax Town skipper Graham Mitchell amid the celebrations of City's last-minute goal by Scott Jordan, which sealed a 2-0 win.
An angry Mitchell confronted the cuddly lion at the final whistle and had to be dragged away by his team mate and goalkeeper Lee Butler as he squared up to Yorkie in front of the David Longhurst Stand.
The incident was reported to the police, but Yorkie later insisted he had not directed the water at Mitchell and was instead squirting it at the City supporters.
However, while police said they would not be taking the matter any further, Halifax boss Mark Lillis failed to see the funny side of Yorkie's alleged indiscretion.
"That's intimidation and it could incite trouble on the terraces," said Lillis. "You cannot get a mascot cocking his leg and squirting water at my captain when they have scored."
The game exploded after James Turley gave City the lead, with the visitors having three players sent off.
