Two rugby greats will renew an old acquaintance when they come face to face in the final of the Yorkshire Shield at Clifton Park tomorrow.
Pocklington's former Welsh international fly-half Gary Pearce will go head to head with his old team-mate and rugby league legend Garry Schofield, now plying his trade as player-coach of Redcar.
The pair played together with top rugby league side Hull FC in the 1986-87 season before their careers took very different paths.
Pearce, who made his name in rugby union, moved on to Scarborough Pirates and York Wasps before returning to the game of his roots as Pocklington's player-coach six years ago.
Schofield joined Leeds the following year and went on to earn a joint record 46 GB caps.
While Thwaites North East Two champions Pocklington are aiming to win the Yorkshire Shield for only the second time, Redcar have never reached a cup final in their history.
Schofield, who has extended his contract with Redcar for the next two seasons, is well aware of Pearce's ability, particularly his goal-kicking.
It is 25 years since Pocklington won the Shield for the only time.
