Ted Kendall, newly appointed captain of Fulford Golf Club, is pictured with Kevin Maguire, joint organiser of the club's junior section, who received a cheque to help the juniors following the captain's drive-in.
Kendall drove the ball 185 yards from the first tee, which, by a remarkable coincidence, was the same distance George Ringwood hit the ball at his captain's drive-in last year.
And to complete the coincidences, Ringwood correctly guessed the distance Kendall would drive the ball - and won a bottle of whisky.
Kendall certainly made a wonderful start to his year as captain by partnering vice-captain Colin Foster to a three and two victory as they helped Fulford beat North Yorkshire Police 31/2-21/2 in the first club match of the season.
