Referring to letters related to the increase in swimming fees in York, the council has usually replied by saying that the cost in the city is less, or comparable with charges in Selby, Tadcaster and Wetherby - the "cheapest in the area" according to Coun Jones.
This is not the case. The cheapest in York using both York Card and Loyalty Card appears to be £1.28 a swim.
In Tadcaster the cost for a Concession 24 Swim Card is £23.50 or 98p a swim.
The Tadcaster pool is relatively modern, clean and appears to be very well run. It is not operated by a local authority and perhaps York council is comparing costs at other local authority pools.
