The Evening Press has reported that the longstanding traffic problems at the A19 roundabout that were exacerbated by the siting of the council's Rawcliffe Bar Park & Ride scheme are now to be finally tackled. The proposed improvement scheme is to cost £1.5 million of which City of York Council will provide £1 million.
This is the same council that recently made more than £4 million of cuts, was unable to provide the £400,000 needed for essential maintenance work at the Barbican Pool and additionally reduced its annual contribution to the Barbican management company by £120,000.
If the council had listened in the first place to concerns expressed about these projects neither would be in their current state.
Specifically, that the poor siting of the park and ride scheme would not improve local traffic problems.
Had the Barbican Centre been built with an Olympic-size pool it could have become a major sporting venue with increased income for pool and city.
It will be interesting to see what the council cuts to cover the costs of their latest scheme, executive councillors?
