A QUARTET of York players played their part as Yorkshire's under-18s side beat the touring South Africans 33-20.
In a tight first period Acorn's Nicholas Caldwell shone at prop and New Earswick All Blacks second rower Lee Patterson caught the eye with his powerful running.
In the second half Yorkshire got on top and the pick of their tries came from Heworth's Danny Sinclair, who cut through to score with a brilliant 60 yard run that left a string of would be tacklers in his wake, and his club-mate Matt Carr also contributed strongly after coming on as a substitute.
York Acorn forward Phil Coles produced an excellent display for Yorkshire's under-16 side, but ended up on the losing side.
Coles and his team-mates faced the South African tourists at Featherstone Rovers' Post Office Road ground and they were only narrowly beaten 28-24.
Yorkshire grabbed four tries with Hunslet Parkside centre Chris Turpin scoring a hat-trick and Knottingley's second row Jamie Maughan also crossed.
Heworth's Tom Mercer got his chance as a substitute late in the game but was afforded little opportunity to shine.
York Acorn's under-11s were narrowly beaten 32-26 as they came up against a strong Featherstone side.
Acorn showed plenty of flair in attack, but were at times frail in defence, but they kept in touch throughout with Lee Ferguson and Mark Tinsdale impressing.
They crossed for five tries with Lee Botterill and Matthew Gray scoring two each and there was one for Michael Gray, while the goals were added by Botterill, Karl Hutton, and Michael Gray.
