Newsquest, publisher of the Evening Press, has taken a significant stake in the UK's No1 education website.
Schoolsnet.com (www.schoolsnet.com), a one-stop site for parents, pupils and teachers, has been hailed No1 Internet start-up of the year by the authoritative New Media Age magazine.
It is due to be formally launched next month, when initial areas will include:
Schools Guide - A definitive illustrated guide to every school in the United Kingdom, including examination results, inspection reports, background details, and much more
Library - Surfers will be able to visit the Schoolsnet library to browse more than 20,000 titles
Classroom Resources - Interactive lessons, essay plans, worksheets, revision guides, tips on how to study, plus an array of GCSE and A-level questions.
Schoolsnet, which employs more than 30 people at its Westminster offices, will work with Newsquest newspapers and its online ventures to build education content for use both on the Internet and in print.
Iain Aiken, managing director of Newsquest Digital Media, said: "There are significant synergies between Schoolsnet and Newsquest's strategy to position our 'This is...' sites at the core of the communities which we serve."
