Pupils at Woldgate School, Pocklington, are likely to think twice before causing mischief after the introduction of an arresting new discipline policy.
If a student is carted off to the cells by police for refusing to sit down, goodness only knows what would happen to vandals...
A generation ago, an obstinate pupil would have sat down the moment a board rubber was flung in his direction.
These days such primitive sanctions are unavailable, so the police call was an imaginative alternative.
This will have made a deep impression on the whole school.
Now all a teacher needs do to restore calm is say the magic words: "One more word out of you and I'm calling the cops."
