A late Christmas present has been handed to our Hospice 2000 Appeal and to York and District Against Motor Neurone Disease, thanks to the generosity of villagers.

While most people were resting and recuperating on Boxing Day the people of Dunnington, near York, took to the pavements and streets for a charity walk round the village. The latest walk raised a total of £650, and an additional £250 from other events means that St Leonard's Hospice and York and District Against Motor Neurone Disease will each be receiving a late Yuletide gift of £450.
The walk, in its twelfth year, is organised by Dunnington and Grimston Playing Fields Association and attracted about 100 supporters.
Those with pushchairs took a shorter, more pavement-orientated route, while the more energetic opted for the five-mile walk round the village.
The walkers all made a donation and refreshments and a raffle were organised at the sports club.
Janet Morley, fundraising organiser for the hospice, said: "We are very grateful to all those who took part and put their best foot forward for our appeal."
