Yorkshire unexpectedly stumbled to a three-wicket defeat in their one-day friendly match against a new-look Derbyshire at Derby yesterday in a game played under Benson and Hedges rules.
Put in to bat, Yorkshire made 182 for eight off their 50 overs after openers David Byas and Craig White had been sent back for one apiece by former Warwickshire seamer Tim Munton.
Top-scorer with 61 was Richard Blakey who faced 126 balls and struck seven fours, putting on 77 for the fifth wicket with Gary Fellows who made 33. Chris Silverwood slammed an unbeaten 27, including 18 off the final over from Paul Aldred.
Darren Gough and White each claimed two wickets for Yorkshire but they could not contain former Nottinghamshire batsman Mathew Dowman, who smacked ten fours in his 85 which came off 102 deliveries, Derbyshire winning with three overs to spare.
Yorkshire have organised practice matches among themselves today - although that is in doubt because of rain - and tomorrow at Headingley with Australian Darren Lehmann expected to play in the second of them as he adapts to English conditions before Saturday's Benson & Hedges Cup opener against Durham at Riverside.
On Sunday, Yorkshire meet Lancashire at Headingley in another B&H group game and before the start there will be a minute's silence as a token of respect to the memory of the two Leeds United supporters who died last week at Galatasaray.
