City of York's second team were the victims of their own generosity as they lost 4-2 at home to Sheffield.

The south Yorkshire side turned up a man short for the end of season friendly fixture and City offered them Colin Moore to even up the sides.

At half-time the visitors were leading by two goals - Moore having scored both.

The interval saw an exchange of players as Moore returned to the City lines, while Andrew Pooley donned a Sheffield shirt and York began to take control of the game and James Gilbert caused devastation in the Sheffield defence and pulled City level.

However, in battling to get back in touch, and perhaps not helped by having had their club dinner the night before, City ran out of steam and in the last five minutes when Sheffield scored twice - this time utilising their own talent.

City of York III travelled to meet Sheffield III and notched an impressive 3-2 success.

Giving John Bell and Oliver Scully their first chance at this level, City were soon in control and took the lead through Matt Todd.

It was then that Bell and Scully, regular members with the sixth string this term, made their mark and they both scored as City went into half-time 3-1 up.

The second half saw Sheffield hit back and they reduced the deficit to one goal and it took some determination in the City rearguard for them to hold on for victory.

A lack of firepower saw City of York under-14 boys slip up in the play-offs.

Having won their section they were hopeful of doing well but slipped to a 1-0 defeat by Rotherham and then could only gain a goalless draw with Wakefield before finally getting on the scoresheet, through John Raper and Alex Cockram, to secure a 2-2 draw with Halifax.

Both a mixed under-10 side and an under-12 girls team took part in the Colts Festival at Ben Rhydding.

The under-10s had mixed luck as they drew 1-1 with Adel and beat Almondbury 2-1, Amelia Smalley notching all three goals, before going down 4-0 to the hosts and 5-0 to eventual winners Doncaster.

The under-12s fared a little better but started with a 1-0 reversal against Wakefield before beating Ben Rhydding 1-0 with Smalley again on target.

They then hammered Adel 5-1 with Smalley (2), Smith (2) and Wakefield scoring, but in their crucial clash with Driffield they went down 3-2 despite twice leading with goals from Smalley and Stephanie Pearson.
