After the thrills and spills of Saturday's Martell Grand National, it's back to Flat-racing tomorrow and the first meeting of the new turf season at Pontefract, where Frankie Dettori looks set to shine.

The popular Italian, fresh from his resounding success on Dubai Millennium in the Dubai World Cup, can win the High-Rise Classified Stakes on Seek, trained by Luca Cumani.

Newmarket-based Cumani also trained High-Rise, who won this corresponding race in 1998 before going on Derby glory at Epsom. The chances of Seek rising to such heady heights are only a pipe-dream at the moment.

But there is no doubting that this lightly-raced three-year-old, winner of one of his two races as a juvenile, is a horse of infinite potential.

He is expected to return to action here in a blaze of glory.

Dettori can also win the Beast Fair Median Auction Maiden Stakes on Caballe.

Trainer Sean Woods has a useful squad of three-year-olds under his care this season and Caballe figures among them. This daughter of Opening Verse finished a creditable second in a maiden race at Doncaster on her only outing last season. Much better things are promised this term.

The featured Tote Bookmakers Showcase Handicap offers Pat Eddery the chance to get his name on the Pontefract scoresheet.

The 11-times champion jockey, who has made a good start to the season, teams-up with Topton, who ran a fine race at Doncaster last month to finish second to Katy Nowaitee in the Worthington Spring Mile.

Trained by Paul Howling, Topton can go one better tomorrow.

The Pontefract Apprentice Series annually rewards the winning rider with a working holiday in America and tomorrow's first round could see James Bosley steal a march on his rivals.

Bosley partners Badrinath, a horse fit from the all-weather, running over his favourite distance of a mile-and-a-quarter. He should run well.

Birchwood Sun clinched the Bentley Selling Stakes 12 months ago and it would come as no surprise to see Michael Dods' ten-year-old do the business again.

Jason Weaver, who knows Birchwood Sun so well, has the mount on the veteran sprinter, just as he did last year.

Although unplaced on his seasonal reappearance at Newcastle, Pleasant Mount remains a horse destined to enjoy a decent campaign.

Julie Camacho's stayer deserves another chance in the two-mile-plus handicap in which he will have the assistance of Kevin Darley.

At Southwell, a note should be made of Foist in the Elrond Handicap over seven furlongs.

The eight-year-old, trained by Mick Easterby, made a promising comeback effort on this course at the end of February. Over an extra furlong tomorrow, Foist is napped to prevail.

Recent course winner Time Can Tell looks the one to be on in the Mordor Handicap.
