Reader's letter

Once again City of York Council has shown just what it thinks of its citizens, and in particular its swimmers. It treats them as idiots, insults their intelligence and plays them for suckers - in other words it treats them with contempt.

The prices have just been published for swimming at Yearsley Baths for 2000/2001 and the result is unbelievable. Individual sessions for York Card holders previously cost £1.10 with a prepaid card giving ten sessions, the so-called 'Loyalty Card' costing £8.40. And how has York Council rewarded its loyal swimmers? From now on the 'Loyalty Card' costs the magnificent sum of £12.80 - an increase of 52 per cent, while individual sessions remain at £1.10.

So, swimmers of York, you now know what to do: forget any loyalty you may have had in the past, do not waste your money on swimming cards, just pay each time you go for a swim and keep your money in you own pockets.
