Children from York schools helped herald the opening of the city's National Centre for Early Music this afternoon.
Ralph Butterfield School pupils Craig Minton, Dominic Smith, Keith McGowan and Natalie Starr join Richard Thomas at the launch of the National Centre for Early Music in York today
The pupils, dressed in English Civil War costumes and carrying colourful banners, marched around the bar walls and through Walmgate Bar to St Margaret's Church, off Walmgate, where the centre opens tonight.
The church has been transformed and extended to create the new centre with the help of a £1.5million grant from the National Lottery through the Arts Council.
The Archbishop of York, Dr David Hope, is to perform the official opening ceremony tonight. The pupils performed a series of colourful historic dances to music by the QuintEssential Sackbut and Cornett ensemble.
Delma Tomlin, director of York Early Music Foundation, said: "We are delighted to be able to celebrate the opening of the centre with such a colourful educational project."
The children came from Heworth CE, Ralph Butterfield, St Barnabas CE, St Wilfrid's CE and Tang Hall schools.
