York's Men are through to the final of the Yorkshire CIBA League for the fourth year running following their nail biting win over Huddersfield last Wednesday evening.

Iain Boyle's rink won the match for York on the last end with a four, having previously killed the final end four times.

Both teams went into the match knowing whoever won would be in the final.

After five ends of play York led 22-21, thanks to a timely seven on the fourth end to the away rink of Doug Mitchell, Phil Parsons, Dave Hewick and skip Mick Parker, and a six on the fourth end to the home rink of Dudley Williams, Fred Clayden, John Emmerson and skip Iain Boyle.

However, by the ten end stage Huddersfield had moved into the lead with the score standing at 43-62 and by 15 ends Huddersfield had further increased their lead to five shots with the score standing at 62-57.

At this stage the home rinks were trailing by 33-26 with the away rinks winning by 31-29.

By 18 ends things didn't look any better for York as Huddersfield's lead had increased to eight shots with the score standing at 74-66.

The away rinks finished first, going down by seven shots leaving the two home rinks to battle out the last three ends.

The rink of Russ Barton, Dennis Haw, Mal Harrison and skip Paul Mooring, who had been under pressure all evening against the rink skipped by Tony Horobin, won their final three ends with a three, a one and another three to be finally beaten 16-19.

Iain Boyle's home rink scored a one on the 19th end by another one on the 20th to go into the last end needing four shots to win the match for York.

Each time the end was played York were not in a very good position and on four occasions Iain Boyle killed the end until the final end where York laid three shots with both skips having one wood each to bowl.

Boyle set off his wood which drew the fourth counting bowl and David Harrison was unable to prevent York from winning, seeing his wood drop short of the head.

It was a tremendous win for York and they now play Barnsley Metrodome in the final on Sunday in Scarborough (1.30pm).

There is a coach provided and anybody wishing to go to the game should contact the York and District IBC for details.
