Reader's letter
I read, with sadness, of the retirement of Councillor Ken Cooper. This modest, self-effacing gentleman has known more than his fair share of life's troubles yet he has always found time to help others. He has never been interested in self-aggrandisement and of power.
As Lord Mayor, Sheriff and councillor he has served York and its citizens without fear or favour, selflessly for many years. Never one to take himself too seriously, his quick smile and sense of fun set him in a class apart from the present mould of modern, professional politicians we have to endure.
Everyone who knows him will thank him for his service and wish him well.
Kenneth W Scaife,
Ferguson Way,
New Lane,
York.
