Neil Wood, the champion will face his Heworth team captain Keith Lawrence in the final of the York Conservative Clubs' Scruton Cup Individual snooker competition.

The final will be at Heworth Conservative Club on Wednesday, April 5 at 7.30pm and will be the best of five frames.

In the semi-final Wood had a 2-0 victory over team mate Richie Burdett, to continue his record of not losing a frame in this competition.

The first frame was uneventful and Wood did just enough to win on the green. However, he showed his class as he took the second frame with breaks of 30 and 40 to secure the match 2-0.

Lawrence overcame Clive Whyte (Heworth) last year's beaten finalist and twice a former winner, by coming back from losing the first frame to win 2-1.

Whyte won a fairly even first frame by clearing brown, blue and pink and then went 20 up in the second.

However, Lawrence fought back to level the match by clearing the colours to pink.

Lawrence went 20 in front in the third frame only for Whyte to level the scores at 30 all. Then, while playing safe on the yellow, Whyte went in-off leaving the yellow over a pocket. Lawrence took his change to sink yellow, green, brown and blue to leave Whyte needing two snookers. Lawrence took the frame to win the match 2-1.

Acomb won the York Conservative Club's Ted Plant Snooker Team Pairs Knockout for the fifth time in ten years, when they defeated Fulford 3-2 in the final at Bootham Club.

B Hough and J Ashwell scored confidently in the first frame for Acomb to lead 30-19 as A Clarke and I Machell struggled. Ashwell increased Acomb's lead to 50-24 with a 20 break. Hough took the last red with a blue, Ashwell potted yellow and green and Hough cleared blue, pink and black to win the frame for Acomb 87-29.

Captain K Dalby and K Knowles potted positively to give Acomb a 52-22 lead in the second frame although they had given 12 points away in fouls.

They took all of the colours except blue and pink to defeat Fulford's G Robinson and G Brigham 78-32 to give Acomb a two frames to nil lead and 103 points aggregate advantage.

Needing to win the third frame to stay in the match Fulford's captain, P Oliver and C Herpin quickly went ahead 36-6 as J Barker and E Addinall potted red but failed on colours. The Fulford pair looked to be in danger of losing the frame as they gave away 13 points in fouls and Addinall potted yellow and green, then brown and blue, to cut the lead to three points.

However, Oliver sunk the decisive pink to give Fulford the third frame before Barker took the black to make the score 42-40. This meant the frame score was 2-1 to Acomb, but the aggregate has only been reduced by two points leaving the last Fulford couple an almost impossible task in the last frame.

J Fielding took on an attacking role for Fulford in the fourth frame as he and B Willis scored 16 points. Meanwhile B Jeffrey and K Manson potted four reds but managed only a green, although they were level at 16 all as a result of two fouls.

Fielding then scored positively for Fulford to lead 42-17 with only the colours left. Helped by three fouls by the Acomb duo they took four of the colours to win the frame 77-30.

This levelled the match at two frames each, but Acomb's significant wins in the first two frames meant they secured the aggregate by 54 points and the match 3-2.

Match officials were G Binns, J Sykes and G Lyth, and trophies were presented by D Hodgson.
